Building the World of Your Visual Novel
Speaker: Ashe Thurman
Many a great piece of sci-fi or fantasy media starts by creating a living breathing world for the story to unfold in. Even “mundane” stories may exist in a space that has slightly different rules than those your player is accustomed to. Lengthy, matter-of-fact explanations can be clunky, boring, and totally destroy the flow of the story. However, using natural human conversation, playing with how your reader sees the world through the eyes of the main character, and taking advantage of visual novels as a multi-component medium, you can skip all that tedious expository info-dumping for something more organic and fun.
