Adaptive Audio in Visual Novels – Mycorrhiza as a Case Study

One of the most common techniques used in video games for changing audio is audio replacement, which means replacing one audio track with a completely different audio track. But there are several cases where instead of completely switching out the audio, simply adjusting the sound of the currently playing audio to adapt it to what is happening in the game is a potentially better option. This is called adaptive audio. This talk aims to show how adaptive audio can enhance the effect of one’s visual novel and gives practical examples of adaptive audio techniques in our game Mycorrhiza. Wearing headphones for this presentation is advised!
